WHAT IS MARQUETRY?

Marquetry is the art of applying veneers to a surface to create decorative designs. It differs from inlay as marquetry covers the whole surface. The veneers used are most often wood but can also include mother of pearl, bone, brass and straw.

The techniques of marquetry were developed in the 16th century in Antwerp and were imported to France in the mid-17th century where it gained much popularity.

Olivia Faire practices both traditional and modern techniques of marquetry.
